Professor at the University of Liechtenstein one of the top twenty in his subject

Professor Sascha Kraus, Associate Professor at the Institute for Entrepreneurship of the University of Liechtenstein, has again achieved a top position in the Handelsblatt ranking of all German-speaking business management experts – this in a new edition of the ranking which last came out in the summer of 2012.

The 40-year-old Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Liechtenstein, who was listed in the last ranking in place 25, making him one of the ‘Top 100 young researchers under 40 years of age’, has now achieved an even higher 19th place in the all-important category of ‘Current research achievement of the last 5 years’ (having obtained 50th place in the 2012 ranking). This makes him one of the most successful research academics in the field of business administration in all German-speaking countries.

Third place in the academic region of Switzerland and Liechtenstein

Particularly notable, moreover, is his outstanding place, no. 126, in the category of ‘Life work’ (having obtained place 226 in the 2012 ranking). As a result the Professor, who hails from the Rhineland and has been working at the University of Liechtenstein since 2009, has established himself as one of the big names in his field, and obtained a reputation well beyond the confines of the Rhine valley. Professor Kraus’s research interests focus above all on the interface between entrepreneurship, internationalisation and strategic corporate management. He held a parallel position last year as a Visiting Professor at University of St. Gallen. Based on the criteria of the present ranking, this makes him no. 3 in the academic region of Switzerland and Liechtenstein as well as within his subject area, the sub-discipline of Business Administration that is Entrepreneurship.

Background to the ranking

The ranking of the biggest German-language economics and finance journal, the Handelsblatt, regularly assesses the research performance of a total of 3000 business administration specialists in the entire German-speaking world, this on the basis of three different journal rating lists. These are the VHB Jourqual, influential in the German academic world, the American JCR Impact Factors and the EJL Ranking of the Rotterdam School of Management in the Netherlands. For the personal rankings of the top business administration experts in 2014, quality assessments were made of the publications of all German-speaking business administration specialists in 1000 professional journals of economics – these being journals which decide on the basis of the judgments of independent experts whether to publish a research article.
