The first ever conference on the topic of “Renewable energy and finance” at the University of Liechtenstein will be held on Thursday, 13 June 2013. The event will focus on the links between changes in society, the technological possibilities of renewable energies, and the challenges arising from these for the financial industry.

This new conference event represents a first step towards creating a platform for drawing together Liechtenstein’s financial industry and the increasingly important renewable energy sector. The speakers at the conference will explore the evaluation of this new sector by the financial markets as well as funding concepts for the further development of renewable energies, and present potential solutions.

Technologies and changes in society

Professor Peter Droege from the Chair for Sustainable Spatial Development at the University of Liechtenstein will examine the influence renewable energies have on future living habits. Arthur Büchel, founder of Light Energy Systems AG in Balzers, will outline the innovative use of photovoltaics in the urban environment from an entrepreneur’s perspective, while Professor Franz Baumgartner from the Zurich University of Applied Sciences in Winterthur will present potential technological developments in energy storage and distribution.

Financing renewable energies

Pankaj Agarwal, Managing Director of Panitek AG in Vaduz, will highlight important aspects of international project financing, while financing via private label investment funds will form the topic of a lecture by Dr. Stefan Lindemann of LGT Fondsleitung AG. Dr. Richard Vögeli of BHP Brugger and Partners in Zurich will present specific insurance solutions necessary for this new sector.

Professor Rolf Wüstenhagen from the University of St. Gallen will provide a critical overview of investment opportunities in the area of renewable energies, and Professor Marco Menichetti from the University of Liechtenstein will examine the risks faced by, as well as the financing structures and evaluation of, companies working in the field of renewable energies.

A concluding round of guided discussions will provide an opportunity for exchanging ideas and posing further questions to the speakers. The conference is aimed at asset and portfolio managers as well as employees at banks, fund management companies, associated enterprises, insurance companies and public administrations. The event is also geared towards companies working in the field of renewable energies, energy producers and other interested parties.
