On 14 June 2013, to help people restart their careers following parental leave, the Affiliated Institute SME Centre of the University of Liechtenstein is offering a practice-oriented lecture in conjunction with a mini-workshop for people returning to work, founders of new businesses and for HR managers.

Returning to the world of work is not always easy following parental leave. Depending on the time spent away from the job market, deficits can develop which need to be compensated for in order to optimally relaunch one’s career. Particularly at a time when the pressure of competition is on the rise within companies, achieving the proper balance between work, family and quality of life represents a major challenge – and people are also often a little unsure about their own market value.

Recognizing strengths and being proactive

This is where the practice-oriented workshop “Returning to work after parental leave” offered by the Affiliated Institute SME Centre comes into play. It is aimed at those returning to work or starting up businesses, but also at HR managers working for the region’s SMEs. In the workshop, participants will be grouped according to their situation, and will learn with the aid of checks, exercises, role-play and brief input from trainers how to mobilize their resources to execute their individual master plan for returning to work or finding a new career. Here, the focus is on how to balance family time with work time, on the challenges involved in – and the assistance available for – returning to work, but also on alternatives such as business start-ups, self-employment and working from home.

A lecture with good-practice models

The event will open with a presentation by speakers Dr. Rolf Specht and Nicole Brandes on their experience with good-practice models. As a managing partner at CO3 AG, Rolf Specht is specialized in providing management and leadership training, as well as in providing support to CEOs and top-management teams. He also lectures at universities such as ETH Zurich, the University of St. Gallen and the University of Liechtenstein. As a speaker, management coach and expert in intercultural skills, Nicole Brandes uses her lectures and workshops to provide clarity regarding the causes behind common misunderstandings in leadership situations, negotiations and change processes in a global economy.

The lecture and workshop are free of charge. The number of participants is limited to 40; interested parties are required to register at www.kmu-zentrum.li/wiedereinstieg. The event will be rounded off with a drinks reception, providing the opportunity for further discussion.
