Risk management is especially in the health sector an important issue. As part of an internal project, the National Hospital Vaduz is currently reviewing its actual risk situation to ensure the service quality in the long term. Students of the master program Business Process Engineering of the University of Liechtenstein are currently developing in a practical project of the module Business Process Management a concept for the optimization of risk management at the National Hospital.

Several objectives are pursued with this practical project. For the National Hospital Vaduz, the risk potential of individual areas is analyzed and an approach - in direct cooperation with the responsible persons - is developed. For the students the practical project provides valuable experiences in the execution of consulting projects - a prevalent application area of the graduates. Furthermore, the students get an interesting insight into the management of processes of a hospital.

Practical projects such as this are an integral part of the master program and give students the opportunity to apply and bring in their knowledge on specific issues from the economy. Last week the project kick-off took place, together with the administrative director of the National Hospital of Liechtenstein, Ms. Karin Zech-Hoop. Under the guidance of Prof. Jan vom Brocke, owner of the Hilti Chair in Business Process Management at the Institute of Information Systems, the students will now assess in different stages the risks of the National Hospital and then work out a possible implementation plan of the risk management concept. The final presentation will take place in January 2011.
