At the most recent EUA Council meeting and General Assembly in Vilnius in October 2013, the European University Association (EUA) welcomed the University of Liechtenstein as a new member. With the agreement now signed and legally valid, the young university has taken a further step forward in terms of international recognition.

Rector Klaus Näscher and Vice-Rector for Teaching and Learning Michael Hanke are delighted by the university’s acceptance into the EUA: “Membership of the EUA is an important further step in terms of consolidating the University of Liechtenstein’s international connections and securing its place within the international academic community.”

EUA – European university network

The EUA  is the most important organization within the higher education community in Europe. Membership of the EUA is open to individual universities and national rectors’ conferences as well as to associations and networks of university institutions.

With around 850 members in 47 countries, the EUA aims to strengthen and support universities in Europe through targeted activities. These activities include policy dialogue, conferences, workshops and projects.

Liechtenstein internationally connected

In April 2010 already, the Swiss Center of Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education (OAQ) certified that the University of Liechtenstein fulfilled the Swiss quality criteria. Since December 2012, the Faculty of Business Economics at the University of Liechtenstein has been a member of the prestigious accreditation organizations AACSB International and EFMD

For universities, accreditations are an important quality assurance tool. Independent organizations, mostly non-profit institutions, assess the quality of the teaching and studies. This improves the international comparability of university degrees and increases the transparency of the individual programmes.

Membership of the EUA is a further step forward for the university in terms of international recognition for its high performance standards.
