Abstract

At the latest since the COVID-19 pandemic, the notion of 'resilience' has become omnipresent. As Information Systems (IS) researchers, we are particularly interested in how IS can contribute to coping with exogenous shocks like the pandemic and help organizations and societies to become more resilient. However, a comprehensive overview of how resilience is studied in the IS discipline and of potential shortcomings is currently missing. Addressing this gap, we perform a systematic review of IS research on resilience within the context of organizations by considering different elements from a socio-technical and temporal perspective. Based on this review, we are able to identify major topics in IS research on resilience and their interrelationships. For each of the elements of socio-technical systems, as well as the different phases, we discuss the current status and provide directions for future research.
