Description

Crowdfunding is a contemporary approach of raising capital through collective efforts of large numbers of individuals. In reward-based crowdfunding, which is the focus of the dissertation project, backers do not receive equity or interest in return for their money but various types of non-monetary rewards, most often the product itself. While reward-based crowdfunding has received some attention from researchers, few studies have been dedicated to studying decision-making at the individual level. Against this background, the dissertation experimentally explores decision processes in crowdfunding contexts through a behavioral-economics lens. The dissertation is paper-based, so it will cover a series of experimental studies that focus on various cognitive heuristics and biases.
