Regulations on campus from December

Status: 1.12.2020

The prompt closure of the University of Liechtenstein to the public, the switch to virtualized teaching, and the isolation of the student dormitory have had an impact: The dormitory is now again free of corona infections, without having caused any further infection in the country.

Now it is up to us university members to keep the course with the discipline required and, under the given circumstances, to enable the students' learning success.

The last "direkt" newsletter already informed about the adaptation of the examination modalities and performance assessments. In general, we assume that from January 2021 onward, examinations in the Bachelor's program in Business Administration and, if necessary, in continuing education can be conducted in on-site presence on campus, while the examinations in the other consecutive study programs can be conducted in virtualized or alternative form. The relevant information will be provided directly by the study programs until mid-December 2020.

Start of the summer semester 2021

In the interests of planning security for all members of the university, the Rectorate of the University of Liechtenstein has decided that the course phase will be fully virtualized in the 2021 summer semester. It is also planned to conduct the end-of-semester examinations in the Bachelor's program in Business Administration and, if required, in continuing education in on-site presence on campus, while those in the other consecutive study programs will be conducted in virtualized or alternative form. This will also provide a framework for international students who will be able to decide on this basis whether they wish to travel to the country.

Recording of the courses

We suggest to the lecturers that all live sessions are recorded parallel to the performance by the lecturers. This way we can ensure that all students receive the necessary learning content. Detailed information can be found in the FAQs on virtualization on Moodle.

Opening steps from 1 December 2020

Consecutive teaching will remain fully virtualized until the end of the year. However, the rectorate is taking certain steps towards a cautious opening of the campus from 1 December 2020:

  • Opening hours: From Mon-Fri from 9:00 to 17:00, the library is open to students, lecturers and staff, subject to the protection concept which is still valid.
  • Access is limited to the open access holdings and the research PC. The reading room remains closed and the reference holdings cannot be used on site. Copies and scans may be made from the books/journals.
  • Free postal delivery will continue to be provided.
  • Returns will remain suspended until the end of the year, but of course it is possible to return the books via the return box.

  • The cafeteria will most probably remain closed until the end of the year. The university is making efforts to offer hot food options from January 2021.

Working from home

  • For employees, the regulations on working from home remain in place, in particular the responsible ensuring of availability (physically on site, e-mail and telephone) and of processes within the teams. In the case of on-site presence, the distance and hygiene guidelines of the protection concept continue to apply.

Meetings with external persons

  • Meetings of employees with external persons are possible in compliance with the protection concept. A prerequisite is that the chairperson of the meeting keeps an attendance list with all names of the participants as well as the e-mail address and telephone number of the external guests.
