Dr. Markus Weinmann

Assistant Professor
Hilti Chair of Business Process Management
Current Activity
Markus Weinmann is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Information Systems. Earlier, he did his Ph.D. at the Braunschweig University of Technology. Markus was visiting researcher at several universities, including the City University of Hong Kong and the Queensland University of Technology.
His research has been published in journals including MIS Quarterly, Business & Information Systems Engineering, and European Journal of Operational Research, and has been featured in media outlets including The Wall Street Journal, Daily Mail, and DER SPIEGEL (Academic CV).

Research
Markus’ research concerns "IT & Behavioral Economics," in particular, how people judge, decide, and behave in online environments. For example, in the areas of crowdfunding/science and e-commerce, he studies how websites influence decision making. His studies are quantitative, often have experimental or correlational research designs, and use data gathered via web-based experiments or online sources.

Research Interests

- Digital Economics
- Digital Nudging
- Behavioral Economics
- Online Judgment & Decision Making
- Online Behavior

Recent Publications
- Beyond Crowd Judgments: Data-Driven Estimation of Market Value in Association Football, together with O. Müller and A. Simons, European Journal of Operational Research (263:2): pp. 611-624.
- How Is Your User Feeling? Inferring Emotion Through Human-Computer Interaction Devices, together with M. Hibbeln, J. L. Jenkins, C. Schneider, and J. S. Valacich, MIS Quarterly (41:1): pp. 1-21.

Teaching
Markus’ teaching focus is on “Systems Analysis and Design,” where students learn to design online systems, and “Decision Theory,” where students learn how to make decisions (online).
