Why do some scientific findings transform society while others remain ignored?
This course explores how evidence becomes action in complex societal systems. Drawing on real-world examples from public health, economics, business, architecture, sustainability, and technology, students will examine the interaction between science, policy, and society.
Students will explore how scientific knowledge interacts with politics, stakeholder interests, communication, equity, and decision-making processes. Through interdisciplinary case studies and practical exercises, participants will learn how to analyze complex challenges, develop evidence-informed policy recommendations, and communicate effectively with decision-makers and the public.
The course concludes with a policy challenge project in which students design an evidence-informed strategy for addressing a real-world problem.
