Lehrveranstaltung
In this seminar, students engage with the home and the neighborhood as places of privacy, intimacy and encounter, safety and possibility, inclusion and exclusion. By adopting a perspective that focuses on housing situations of individuals and social groups, students will learn to understand design as embedded in social settings and as a tool to improve or hinder peoples livelihoods.

  • comprehend the basics of conceptual thinking and the terminology required for a critical discussion of home and neighborhood.
  • understand and evaluate concepts and arguments central to discourses in housing studies.
  • understand sustainable architecture in a critical environment, and to translate theoretical concepts for urban and architectural design.
  • conceptualise housing needs of individuals and social groups at the center of their practice and understand home and neighborhood design as critical to improve peoples livelihoods.

  • analyse theories, understand the structure of written arguments and communicate their findings to their peers.

  • communicate, discuss and critique their own work through oral presentation and/or written outputs.

  • situate their own work in a cultural and political context.
  • understand housing design as embedded in social structures and having a direct impact on peoples livelihoods.

Prüfungsmodalitäten
Compulsory attendance according to the Study and Assessment Regulation MSc Architecture.
The final grade is calculated according to the weighting of the following components: submission (40%) and presentation/participation (60%).
