This module allows for various kinds of external workshops, summer schools, study trips, etc. It is not necessarily connected to the five units of the School of Architecture and often organised by other universities, consortia or research institutions. Usually, students attend workshops of 5 to 10 days and develop projects in groups. Presentations are reviewed by the workshop tutors.

As part of the three-year Erasmus+ programme 'Crafting Clay - Exploring circularity with local earth', we are taking an in-depth look at clay as a building material and exploring various clay techniques in different countries. The first workshop took place in Liechtenstein in 2025, where we designed and built the Red Pavilion using clay as a filling material in a half-timbered structure. The second workshop took place 2026 in the Netherlands, where we constructed an herb hause using compressed clay blocks.

The third and last workshop in the Crafting Clay program will take place in Trondheim (NO) and will be coordinated by the NTNU. The aim of this workshop is to design and build a rammed earth element in Nyhavna - an industrial area in Trondheim that is set to be transformed into a vibrant neighbourhood combining culture, housing and urban life. Each student group will produce and design their own unique clay element, experimenting with surface textures, aggregates, formwork, structural expressions and the overall composition. At the end of the workshop, all the elements will be assembled into a wall. The idea is to create two walls that serve as room dividers in a large industrial hall, with openings that allow for flexible use of space and the entry of natural light. Students from the Academie van Bouwkunst, NTNU Trondheim and KU Leuven will participate in this Design Build Workshop. Eight students from the University of Liechtenstein can participate in the workshop and will receive financial travel support from the EU.

The final grade is calculated according to the weighting of the following components: submission (40%) and presentation/participation (60%).
