Cybersecurity is notorious for its unmet staffing demand, often referred to as "skill gap". Not only the number of cybersecurity professionals but also their qualifications lag far behind the expectations of the IT industry. Consequently, the question arises: How can academic institutions alleviate the skill gap by providing their graduates with adequate skills required by the job market?
To answer this question, a project consortium comprising University of Liechtenstein, University of Innsbruck and University of Wuerzburg, supported by the European Erasmus+ funding scheme, has developed a new methodology based on automatic collection of job ads and association of their topics with academic curricula. In the online workshop, the key elements of this methodology will be presented as well as the main findings of the study of the skill gap in cybersecurity in German-speaking countries. The results of the study to be presented point out several fields in cybersecurity curricula where academic programs should be expanded in order to keep up with the industrial demand.
We are delighted to discuss the project results with all participants against the backdrop of their own views and experiences.
