Key aspects of the upcoming partial revision of trust law and aspects of international succession planning

The Liechtenstein trust is part of the original version of the Liechtenstein Persons and Companies Act (PGR) and has traditionally enjoyed great cross-border popularity due to its structuring possibilities, for example in private wealth management or in the non-profit sector. In order to remain competitive among the various legal systems, Liechtenstein is constantly required to keep abreast of international developments and to make selective adjustments to national law where necessary. In this context, the first part of the Liechtenstein Trust Conference 2024 will focus on the main points of the consultation report on the amendment of Liechtenstein Trust Law, with particular emphasis of estate planning, purpose trusts and trust governance. In addition, the fundamental question of the role of transparency and data protection in the recent developments will be examined.

In practice, Liechtenstein trust law is mostly applied to cross-border situations. The second part of the conference will therefore focus on international succession planning. Special attention will be paid to the role of the protector and forced heirship.

The conference presentations will be given by internationally renowned practitioners and academics, and participants will have sufficient opportunity to raise questions after the presentations. The event will generally be conducted in German. Individual presentations will be held in English.

Target Audience

Lawyers, trustees, judges, public prosecutors, employees of banks, insurance companies and financial service providers, legal academics as well as anyone interested in trust law.
