Description

  • The colloquium comprises of a presentation and discussion of the current stage of each students' project and the methodology used.
  • Provision of a structured overview of the actual research topic, proposed methodology and expected outcome of the master thesis.
  • Individual presentation of the master thesis proposal to an audience of fellow students.
  • Assertion of the academic advisor on a possible realization of the master thesis module at the expected academic standard.
  • Discussion with the academic advisor and fellow students about the research topic and its realization potential.

Lecture Goals

During the colloquium the candidate has to introduce and present the research question, research topic and the current state of progress to the audience of fellow students.
An in-depth overview on literature, a solid theoretical background and a detailed schedule of the analysis are expected. The student has to assure the academic advisor of his ability to fulfill the necessary requirements of the master thesis module.

After the presentation the academic advisor encourages fellow students to take an active part in a discussion and feedback session on the presented research topic.

The colloquium serves as a final preparation and opportunity for feedback on presentation skills, contents and argumentation before the master thesis defence, which is conducted in front of the examination board.

Exam Modalities

The presentation should take approx. 15 minutes and a follow-up discussion of 5 minutes.
The colloquium is graded either with "pass" or "fail".
Participation and presentation is obligatory.

In case of failing the Colloquium the candidate cannot continue with the Master Thesis, which will be graded as failed. The candidate has to restart the whole process again from the beginning in the following semester.
