Change at the top of the University of Liechtenstein

On 1 August 2023, Christian Frommelt started as the new Rector of the University of Liechtenstein. He succeeded Markus Jäger, who had held the position of rector since April 2021. Frommelt, who holds a doctorate in political science, successfully prevailed over more than 30 applicants in the application process for the university's highest leadership post in October 2022.

As the former director and head of research in politics at the Liechtenstein Institute, Christian Frommelt is a proven expert on Liechtenstein and its educational landscape. Through his many years of research work and his commitment to science transfer, he has made a significant contribution to the visibility of Liechtenstein as a centre of science both at home and abroad.

He sees a central goal of his work in strengthening the anchoring of the University in Liechtenstein and the region. "The University of Liechtenstein has great charisma and even greater potential. It is an honour for me to be able to help shape the development of the University in a leading role," Frommelt said in his welcome address.

After the many discussions about the organisational structures of the University, the main thing now is to put the focus back on the concrete achievements of the University of Liechtenstein, specifies Frommelt. With research, education and training, as well as knowledge and technology transfer, the University has a broad range of services and makes an important contribution to the sustainable development of Liechtenstein and to its competitiveness in general. In order to further develop the University's strengths, he would like to improve the dialogue between science, politics, business and society through active communication, in addition to international networking.

"We are convinced that Dr. Christian Frommelt will be able to ensure the necessary calm and stability at all levels of the University in the future," says University Council President Lothar Ritter, pleased.

The entire University wishes Christian Frommelt a successful start.
