Erasmus IP 2012 - Investment Funds in Europe

Students of the consecutive Masters’ programme “Banking and Financial Management” have participated in an Erasmus Intensive Programme in Cyprus this September. This great opportunity has been offered to students from the University of Liechtenstein for 9 years by the Chair in Business Administration, Banking and Financial Management.

In September 2012, 40 students and their professors from Universities of  Latvia, Cyprus, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg and Malta congregated in the heart of Cyprus’ capital city, Nicosia, to participate in the Erasmus Intensive Program 2012 entitled: “Investment Funds in Europe: «The impact of current regulation changes on the role of UCITS and NON UCITS in different countries»”.  This workshop was organized and hosted by the University of Cyprus.

The aim of this 10 day intensive program was to raise interest and knowledge about EU Directives  for the regulation of investment funds as well as introduce financial markets of different European countries through workshops; thus enabling students and professors to work together in multinational groups and exchange views on the subject in order to achieve a multi-cultural perspective.

The program also offered a wide range of guest lectures including Mr. Nondas Metaxas (General Manager, Cyprus Securities Exchange), Mr. Marios Kalochoritis (Managing Director, Auvest Capital Management) and many more who shared their knowledge about financial markets and investments funds in Europe.

Besides the official program students had a chance to enjoy a variety of educational, cultural and social events like a guided tour through the historical part of Nicosia involving Archeological Museum and reception by the Nicosia Municipality, visit of Kurion Archeological Site in Limassol and Aphrodite’s birth place in Paphos. On the free weekend students visited a prime holiday destination in Cyprus – Ayia Napa – turning this educational program into a valuable, unique and unforgettable experience for both students and professors alike.
