In the category “Junior researchers under the age of 40” of the Handelsblatt’s “Business administration” ranking, Professor Sascha Kraus, associate professor at the University of Liechtenstein’s Institute for Entrepreneurship, has achieved an outstanding 25th place. The ranking evaluates the research performance of around 3,000 business economists in the entire German-speaking area.

Sascha Kraus (38), who as Professor for Entrepreneurship and Family Business at the University of Liechtenstein is first and foremost engaged in research and teaching in the area of strategic management and entrepreneurship as well as family business, also ranks 58th in the category “Research performance over the last five years” of the Handelsblatt’s top-100 ranking. Within his subject of entrepreneurship, Sascha Kraus was ranked third of all German-speaking business economists for his overall research performance.

Excellent research
“The University of Liechtenstein is a unique location. For junior scientists in particular, we have created first-class framework conditions over the past years, and we will be expanding these further,” says Professor Jan vom Brocke, Vice-Rector for Research and Transfer at the university: “The results can already be seen in the outstanding position achieved by Sascha Kraus. A fundamental factor for research in Liechtenstein is that we create the space for research – combined with an extremely inspiring international working environment with close links to practitioners”, the Vice-Rector continues. For the Institute for Entrepreneurship, the outstanding results are further confirmation of its chosen path following upon the institute team’s pleasing achievement in 2011 of the seventh place among the top 10 science institutes in the field of entrepreneurship in the German-speaking area.

Ranking methodology
The Handelsblatt, the largest German scientific and financial newspaper, evaluates the research output in scientific journals on the basis of three different rankings. The ranking list for the entire German-speaking area is based on the VHB-Jourqual, the Anglo-American ThomsonReuters’ Social Sciences Citation Index /ISI Impact Factors, as well as the Dutch EJL ranking of the Rotterdam School of Management. For the 2012 “Business administration” ranking, a survey was conducted on qualitative evaluations of the publications by around 3,000 German-speaking business economists in 761 business science journals, which base their decision as to whether to publish articles on the assessments of independent expert assessors.
