Sixth consecutive award for Liechtenstein Chapter of the AIS

In July 2020, the Institute for Information Systems at the University of Liechtenstein was again honored by the Association for Information Systems (AIS) for outstanding achievements.

The AIS is the academic world association for business informatics with headquarters in the USA and more than 5000 members worldwide. The aim of AIS is to promote excellence in education, practice and research in the field of business informatics. The AIS annually awards prizes to recognize outstanding achievements in business informatics. With the "Outstanding Chapter of the AIS" award, the global association honors the Institute for Information Systems at the University of Liechtenstein for the sixth time in a row. The award is based on the achievements in research, teaching and transfer that the Association surveys worldwide each year. Here, the University of Liechtenstein scores points with innovative educational programs, publications in the world's best journals and numerous concrete projects for digitization in the country.

Science and innovation location

"We already founded the Liechtenstein Chapter of the AIS in 2009 as the first German-speaking chapter in the association, primarily to draw attention to our strong location," says Prof. Dr. Jan vom Brocke, Head of the Institute for Information Systems at the University of Liechtenstein and President of the Liechtenstein Chapter of the AIS, describing the motivation. "Of course, the repeated award honors - and delights - us very much and contributes to our further recognition as an innovation location for digitization," the owner of the Hilti Chair of Business Process Management, which was established in 2007, continues.

Important role in the country

The Institute for Information Systems accompanies numerous institutions in the country on their way to digitization and cooperates intensively with regional organizations, e.g. with the digital-liechtenstein.li initiative and the Zukunft.li Foundation as well as the Liechtenstein Chamber of Industry and Commerce. The focus is on the question of how technology can be used to benefit in order to master social and economic challenges. A study on cyber security in Liechtenstein was recently published and presented at Vaduz Castle.

"Especially for a country like Liechtenstein, insights into the relevance of technology and its use in overcoming social and business challenges are essential," Rector Ulrike Baumöl is also pleased to report.

Several awards

The appointment as "Outstanding Chapter of the AIS" continues a series of international awards for the Institute for Information Systems at the University of Liechtenstein. Recently, members of the Institute received the award for the best publication of the year for their work on the use of software platforms to support sustainability transformations. The magazine Wirtschaftswoche lists Jan vom Brocke as one of the top 20 management professors of all faculties in its study published in 2019. The AIS recently named Jan vom Brocke a "Fellow" of the world association for his achievements.
