The Accenture Campus Challenge (ACC) is an inter-university case study competition with an emphasis on practical relevance. It is sponsored every year by Accenture Switzerland, one of the world’s leading management consulting, technology and outsourcing service providers. The competition involves teams of students from different universities, who solve case studies with a technical and business management slant. Accenture itself describes the contest as a ‘modern triathlon’ consisting of competition, practical relevance and theoretical background.

The Liechtenstein winning team

The three students from the University of Liechtenstein’s Business Management BA course with a focus on IT and Information Management were Martin Spalt, Reinhard Köfler and Alfons Gschwend. Competing against 16 student teams from four universities, they proved successful in the final round on 16 May 2014 with their business model of an internet platform for small-scale suppliers in Burkina Faso.
‘The ACC was an exciting experience for us, as it involved putting into practice what we had learned in the course of our studies. In developing the project, from the seminal idea right through to the finished concept, every member of the team was able to contribute his special strengths,’ the winners commented. ‘We are proud to return to Liechtenstein victorious!’

Studies as an innovation lab

The Accenture Campus Challenge was held under the auspices of the Innovation Lab seminar. The study module of the same name is given in the last semester of the BA course in Business Management with a focus on Information Management & Information Technology, by Professor Jan vom Brocke’s Hilti Chair of Business Process Management.
Theresa Schmiedel, module director and assistant professor at the Hilti Chair of Business Process Management, drew an extremely positive conclusion: ‘It made me really happy to see how committed the students were throughout the semester to the vision of winning the Accenture Challenge, how well they worked and how professional they were about responding to feedback and putting it into effect.’

A great place to work
