Due to the increasing global demands - from both society and political leaders - for a transfor-mation to a sustainable economy, investors who want to invest sustainably are increasingly ap-pearing on the scene. Compared to the preferences of traditional investors, these investors are expected to show a different realization of their preferences. This project investigates how the preferences of specifically sustainable investors can be charac-terized. It is possible that these are by no means the same across all sustainable investors but differ depending on how they are classified as private or institutional investors or on their de-mographic background. To date, only a very small number of empirical studies have been con-ducted in this area, so there is little knowledge and understanding of how the preferences of sustainable investors are composed.
Only if there is sufficient knowledge about these preferences, it will be possible to target prod-uct offerings to different investor groups in order to better meet their needs and promote a higher rate of transformation to a sustainable economy.
With this study we contribute to the corporate finance literature by explaining how a specific type of sustainable investors make investment decisions.
