Project Description
This module allows for various kinds of external workshops, summer schools, study trips, etc. It is not necessarily connected to the five units of the School of Architecture and often organised by other universities, consortia or research institutions. Usually, students attend workshops of 5 to 10 days and develop projects in groups. Presentations are reviewed by the workshop tutors.

Students at the University of Liechtenstein work together with apprentices in the skilled trades to design and build benches at selected locations in municipalities throughout the Principality of Liechtenstein. The focus of this collaboration is not on the individual object, but on the collaborative work process: negotiating ideas, making decisions, and dealing with materials, the site, and responsibility. The project is conceived as an experimental teaching format that facilitates cooperation on an equal footing and allows participants to experience key aspects of their future professional lives at an early stage. Today, more than ever, the planning and implementation of construction projects are shaped by interdisciplinary collaboration. Nevertheless, architecture and the trades often do not intersect until late in the educational
process—and usually under asymmetrical conditions. The Interreg project “Walz 4.0” addresses this issue by testing new formats
in which students and apprentices work together, learn from one another, and understand each other’s processes while still in training.
This project builds on this objective and translates it into public value: The students and apprentices collaborate on an overarching project
focused on crafting benches along existing community paths and near specific tree species. The benches are constructed from wood sourced from the respective tree species. This not only creates new seating options in public spaces but also showcases the diversity of
wood as a local resource. A central element of the project is the deliberate decision to move beyond the university as the sole workplace. Design and construction take place at the Frommelt carpentry shop and at the respective construction sites. This shift in location creates distance from familiar academic role models and promotes collaboration on an equal footing.

Assessment Methods
Minimum 75% compulsory attendance and continuous assessment.
The final grade is calculated according to the weighting of the following components: submission (40%) and presentation/participation (60%).

Registration is only binding after confirmation from the workshop leader.
