At the invitation of the Stiftung Lebenswertes Liechtenstein, Swiss architect Barbara Buser was a guest at the SKino in Schaan. The occasion was the premiere of the documentary film «Barbara Buser – Pioneer of Sustainability».

In the subsequent panel discussion, Barbara Buser engaged in conversation with Dr Luis Hilti (Atelier Gapont and postdoctoral researcher at the University of Liechtenstein), Prof. Dr Daniel Stockhammer (University of Liechtenstein, Built Heritage and Upcycling Unit) and moderator Dr Clarissa Rhomberg (ZirkuLIE, alumna of the University of Liechtenstein), further elaborating on her perspective on circular construction.

During the discussion, Daniel Stockhammer emphasised the central role of knowledge transfer in the education of architects. Circular construction is an integral part of the curriculum at the Liechtenstein School of Architecture, ensuring that this way of thinking becomes embedded in professional practice. Buildings should be designed in such a way that they can be easily dismantled and their components reused.

Research at the University of Liechtenstein is also increasingly focused on how existing resources can be used more effectively. Particular attention is given to local materials and their potential for reuse. One current research project, for example, explores the potential of reusable timber building blocks.

Despite the sense of momentum, the panel participants agreed that there is still a long way to go and that, particularly in the context of Liechtenstein, progress depends on close collaboration between industry, education and research.
