Utopia. Lernen der Zukunft
On the occasion of its centenary, Itten+Brechbühl AG launched a student ideas competition as a gift to the next generation of architects. The ideas submitted were evaluated by a jury of renowned experts.
The exhibition at the Liechtenstein School of Architecture will show the best four projects of the competition.
The evening begins with a lecture from Daniel Blum, Head of the Basel Design Team at Itten+Brechbühl AG and will be continued with an open discussion, drinks and snacks.
What will the next 100 years look like? Visions of the future reflect the themes of the time. Classical modernism (the founding era of IB) sought to mark a break in architectural history, while contemporary central themes are based on other premises such as: concern for existing buildings, digitalization, sustainability, and building in the knowledge society. In a pointed juxtaposition, it can be asserted that in 1922 the focus was on the future as a SUBSTITUTE for the past and in 2022 the focus is on the future ALONGSIDE the past. In this context, the task of the student ideas competition arose: to develop a utopia for learning in the future.
Competition UTOPIA - Learning of the Future:
Inspiration for the launch of the competition: What is the strongest impression of the attitude to life, what is the structure, in Salvisberg's and Brechbühl's sense, for the future of learning? As an ideas competition for students, this question was explicitly addressed to the coming generation of architects - because their visions will shape our future.
The utopia, the ou-topos as a "non-place" with the Muesmatt institute building in Bern as the starting point. Described in words, plans and pictures - the future of learning. A prize in the sum of CHF 10,000 was awarded
The international ideas competition for students will be held every two years in the future, with the next occuring in 2024.
