A general introduction to SAP and handling of the software is provided in the first session of the course Enterprise Systems. Please make sure to attend this session in case you do not have some prior experience with SAP software.

The course focuses on conceptual principles, implementation and operations of Business Intelligence solutions, based on SAP NetWeaver BW, SAP BusinessObjects and SAP HANA. The main learning outcomes are:

In this course we discuss some statistical methods that can help to take decisions in business using data. After reviewing the basic concepts of ''Testing and Estimating'', usually known from an introductory course on probability theory and statistics in any bachelor program, we introduce and discuss some aspects of ''Multiple Linear Regression Analysis'', which can be regarded as one of the practically most relevant statistical techniques.

The course focuses on collaboration, collaborative work and modern collaboration tools in a business environment. Students will apply their knowledge in a hands-on collaboration project with partners.

Collaborative Business is an evolving topic in the area of Information Systems. It supports flexible cooperation and enables new modes of value creation in loosely coupled networks. Furthermore, collaboration can be a source of process innovation and value creation throughout a company.

In this module students are introduced to concepts of inter- and intraorganizational collaboration and cooperation.

Besides theoretical concepts of communication and collaboration, the students are brought in touch with state-of-the-art collaboration technology. They are motivated to experience these tools in praxis and are guided through a collaboration experience.

Virtual teams are formed and perform collaboration tasks throughout the whole semester.

Please note the changes in deadlines as of SS16:

Exposé: February 1st (summer term) and July 1st (winter term)
Master's Thesis: June 30 (summer term) and November 30 (winter term)

Submissions and deadlines

  • The master's thesis must be submitted until February 1st (for the winter term) and August 1sth (for the summer term) to the the central service desk.
  • The submission of master's thesis must include: (1) a CD ROM containing thesis' digital copy (at the central service desk) and (2) direct submission of thesis' digital copy to the supervisor and co-supervisor (via e-mail).
  • If any of the dates above falls on a weekend or public holiday, the deadline is automatically extended until the next working day. Please also check the opening times of the central service desk, especially during summer months.

  • The already scheduled dates of the commencement ceremony can be found in the menu bar on the left

  • The registration for the commencement ceremony is handled by the study administration. Dates of the commencement ceremony are given in the menu bar located on the left / topic commencement ceremony

In this case there are a supervisor, co-supervisor and a practical supervisor involved in a thesis project. An external co-supervisor can be agreed in exceptional cases only (please check with the administration office of the institute if a personal data sheet is necessary for this person).

  • The official editing time is defined on the thesis proposal and may not exceed 22 weeks. A shorter editing time is possible.

  • While editing the master's thesis a colloquium with the supervisor must be held.

Theories of International Trade and International Finance aim at explaining underlying dynamics of economic and social developments in a global context. They also allow to investigate relations between market and industry structures and flows in goods, services and financial flows. Furthermore they serve in designing and evaluating the impact of macro-economic policies, currency fluctuations and trading regimes on economies, business strategy and operations.

The module aims at examining how national policies can, in theory, shape international trade and finance, and constrain the climate for international business. It extends this analysis to the international system discussing the role of international arrangements and institutions, e.g. the WTO, on international trade and investment.

Using a series of country-based case studies, students will have the opportunity to investigate how firms feel and master the impact of government policy and institutional set-ups in a specific nation state or economic region, for example China, India, the Arab World and South-America.

  • Principles of strategic trade theory and geographic economic integration

This extra-curricular course aims at supporting students in defining their master thesis topic and in preparing an exposé. Participation is optional, but highly recommended to all students who are planning to write their master’s thesis in the following summer semester.

Theories of International Trade and International Finance aim at explaining underlying dynamics of economic and social developments in a global context. They also allow to investigate relations between market and industry structures and flows in goods, services and financial flows. Furthermore they serve in designing and evaluating the impact of macro-economic policies, currency fluctuations and trading regimes on economies, business strategy and operations.

The module aims at examining how national policies can, in theory, shape international trade and finance, and constrain the climate for international business. It extends this analysis to the international system discussing the role of international arrangements and institutions, e.g. the WTO, on international trade and investment.

Using a series of country-based case studies, students will have the opportunity to investigate how firms feel and master the impact of government policy and institutional set-ups in a specific nation state or economic region, for example China, India, the Arab World and South-America.

Contents of the module are:
  • Sources of international comparative advantages (differences in natural resources, technology and factor endowment)
  • Principles of strategic trade theory and geographic economic integration
  • Goals, instruments and impact of modern international trade policy in industrial and emerging economies
  • International trade agreements and organisations

Collaborative Business is an evolving topic in the area of Information Systems. It supports flexible cooperation and enables new modes of value creation in loosely coupled networks. Furthermore, collaboration can be a source of process innovation and value creation throughout a company.

In this module students are introduced to concepts of inter- and intraorganizational collaboration and cooperation.

Besides theoretical concepts of communication and collaboration, the students are brought in touch with state-of-the-art collaboration technology. They are motivated to experience these tools in praxis and are guided through a collaboration experience.

Die Studien- und Prüfungsordnung (SPO) und die "Richtlinien zum wissenschaftlichen Arbeiten" geben einen klaren Rahmen zur Bearbeitung der Master-Thesis vor. >>Link

Insbesondere sind folgende Punkte zu beachten:

>Die Disposition wird in Abstimmung mit Erst- und Zweitbetreuer erstellt. Erst- und Zweitbetreuer sollen Mitglieder des Instituts für Wirtschaftsinformatik sein. Externe Betreuer werden als Praxisbetreuer in die Ausarbeitung der Thesis eingebunden. In Ausnahmefällen ist die Nennung externer Betreuer als Zweitbetreuer möglich. Bei Hinzuziehung eines externen Zweitbetreuers ist mit dem Geschäftszimmer des Instituts für Wirtschaftsinformatik abzuklären, ob die Anlage eines Personaldatenblattes für diese Person notwendig ist.

>Die Thesis soll in englischer Sprache verfasst werden. In Ausnahmefällen kann mit dem Erstbetreuer eine Verfassung in deutscher Sprache vereinbart werden.

>Die offizielle Bearbeitungszeit der Master-Thesis ist auf dem Exposé definiert und darf 22 Wochen nicht überschreiten. Eine kürzere Bearbeitungszeit ist möglich.

>Während der Bearbeitung der Master-Thesis ist ein Kolloquium mit dem Erstbetreuer abzuhalten. Weitere Informationen dazu finden sie in der Veranstaltungsinformation "Kolloquium". Der Studierende ist für die Abhaltung des Kolloquiums verantwortlich.

>Die in dieser Modulbeschreibung bekannt gegebenen Abgabetermine sind die letztmöglichen Termine zur Wahrnehmung des darauf folgenden Termins zur Präsentation und Verteidigung der Master-Thesis. Nach diesem Termin abgegebene Arbeiten werden zum nächsten Termin der Präsentation und Verteidigung berücksichtigt.
